The Buckleys of Cappawhite arrived in the area sometime in the early 1800s. By 1826, the Tithe Applotment records show Buckleys living in Shanacloon (Toem, Co. Tipperary), Cahernahallia (Toem, Co, Tipperary), and Glengar (Doon, Co. Tipperary). We have obtained photocopies of the actual handwritten Tithe Applotment records, and the relevant entries are shown below:

With this background, the sections that follow will make more sense. So although this part of the website is about the people, the geographical and administrative divisions of the area form the basis for looking at the elements of our family. Thus, the Shanacloon, Cahernahallia/Knockanavar, and Glengar pages set forth what we know about each of these braches of our Cappawhite family, and then the “Master Tree” page reflects our best notions of how all the various branches tie together into one tree. The purpose of the “Origins” page is self-explanatory: If the Buckleys came to the Cappawhite area in the first two decades of the 19th century, where were they before then? We do not yet have firm answers, but an educated guess or two.
