Welcome to "The Buckleys of Cappawhite" . . .
To introduce this site, let me tell you a story. Edward F. Buckley, left Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary, in 1884 at the age of 16. He settled in upstate New York, and lived out his life there. He was my grandfather. During the 120 years since he left Cappawhite, my family has kept in loose touch with Ireland but we are more strangers than family to our cousins who live there today. And, because there were several Buckley families living in Cappawhite in those times, different Buckleys crossed here to the States at different times. And we Cappawhite cousins here are more strangers than family to one another, too.
I have visited Cappawhite twice, but though I can trace my connections to some relations in the area, I have not been able to figure out the connection to any of the Buckley families who live there today. Neither have the other Cappawhite Buckleys here in the States. This does not really matter so much in the grand scheme of our day-to-day lives, but I don't think one can have too much family in these times -- so it would be nice to know. The purpose of this site is to start publishing the research that we American Buckleys of Cappawhite have put together about our connections.

What's new? August 28, 2007
The site has been updated to include all the data we have on Buckley births in the Cappawhite area during 1815-1909. We hope the visitor will find this useful; if you have some information we don't have, send it to us and we'll post it. -- JRB |
